Stapedectomy Fears

I am 29 and I have profound loss due to Otosclerosis. I have been functioning with my hearing aids since I was 20. I am now having a lot of trouble hearing (with the aids). The doctor suggested trying the Stapedectomy. I question if it is right for me. My loss is very far gone and the doctor says I could come up to a moderate or severe loss. I would still need to wear the hearing aid. I was also told recovery would be brief and I could go back to work on Monday if I have the surgery on Wednesday. I have read so many postings on here and it seems far fetched to go back on Monday. I am a preschool teacher. I lift and bend all day. I am also exposed to crying, screaming... all the time. I am also scared that it will cause pain to wear the hearing aid after the surgery. I have been getting by this long, is his surgery worth it? If my loss is so progressed, will this surgery give me any improvment?

Re: Stapedectomy Fears

What did your hearing test reveal, was it conductive hearing loss or was there also nerve damage hearing loss or both? Stapedectomy surgery repairs the conductive hearing loss.

Re: Stapedectomy Fears

I have a mixed loss. My nerve loss is moderate and the bone loss is profound I am pretty sure that is correct. I get confused at times. I am not going to have the stapedectomy, at all. I am going to go with BAHA instead. Thanks for the response though.
