    Stapedectomy Packing

Can anyone tell me how long it took for the gel packing to "melt away" after the surgery? I don't have an appointment until a month after surgery-which seems unusual after reading other posts. I'm only 5 days post-surgery, but the packing is driving me crazy. I think it is causing a loud wooshing noise whenever I am sitting up. I think it is also making it painful if I lie on my non operated side-as if it is putting extra pressure on the ear drum?

If I had a target to wait for I think I could hold it together...
    Thanks for any help.

I have foam packing, so unfortunately I cannot give you an answer. But yes, the packing was annoying!
