    Ear Tubes Local Anesthetic

Has anybody had ear tubes or a myringotomy done in the doctors office and had severe stinging or burning from the anesthetic that was placed on eardrum? How many times was anesthetic put on eardrum? Are you hearing alright or is hearing muffled? Please respond.

    Re: Ear Tubes Local Anesthetic

Hi Marie, sorry this is so long after you posted. I had local anaesthetic put on my eardrum before having an ear tube in my right ear only. That was four weeks ago. The moment he put the stuff in my ear, I felt a cold, stinging feeling that extended right down my neck to my shoulder, where I have now grown a lymph node? Don't know why. I also went completely deaf in that ear & the hearing hasn't returned. I can hear mostly normally (60% left/40% right) through headphones. Weird or what? Yet all the sound on my right side, comes in through my head rather than my eardrum otherwise. There has been no improvement in my hearing in those four weeks & I am also suffering from terrible pressure occasionally, which at it's worst, is like someone stirring my brain with a wooden spoon! My ENT isn't in the least bit interested in my problems & won't answer any questions, as he says everything looks fine, but has agreed to remove the tube if it hasn't cleared up in the next two months.
