    Autoimmune hearing loss

Hi anyone aware of or experienced autoimmune hearing loss? I have lost a huge amount of hearing despite medication and no seeming solution in sight. If anyone has experienced it'd be great to learn about. Thanks

    Re: Autoimmune hearing loss

I have not but I have a friend who has. The problem seems to be from antibodies against the cells of the inner ear. She has a combo of hearing loss and Meniers syndrome, which causes vertigo. I know she has been helped by an audiologist and ENT Dr., as well as her rheum who deals with the autoimmune disease manifestations. I hope you get some help with this. It is a known, but uncommon entity in the autoimmune basket of problems.

Hi thanks for that. Is there any way of getting any further info? I'm doing all the reading up I can but with docs there seems to be no options and no answers. Audiologist v good. Thanks for replying.

    Re: Autoimmune hearing loss

Try to research what loss of hearing, deafness related foundations, associations etc. in your community exist, and call them, asking for names of physicians or specialists who are most interested in autoimmune inner ear disorders. Sometimes they hear from patients who have been helped by good Drs. and will pass those names on. There may be a support group locally as well, whose members will know which Drs. are good. Best of luck to you.
