    Cochlear implant and prednisone

I just had my first of two cochlear implants surgery and would like to know why my doctor is so in need for me to take prednisone continuously knowing that it makes me feel so irritable and is not allowing me to sleep well?
is prednisone some type of magic pill??? He even prescribe it to me one more time at a higher dosage that I must take before getting my unit activated???
