    Stapedectomy Ponderings

I've always had some allergy problems, but about two years ago, they came on with a vengeance, along with irritating noise in my right ear (think about your ear covered with a seashell with a slow dialup connection being tried inside the seashell). Two GP's told me that once they got my sinuses cleared up, the noise should go away. It didn't, so I went to ENT to see if they could tell me why I couldn't hear anything on my right side except this irritating racket. They asked questions and did hearing tests and told me it was Otosclerosis. Being a consultant, this scared me, even though I still had good hearing on the left side. The noise from the right was so aggravating that I had to concentrate to hear on my left. I also worry that deterioration of the hearing in my left ear would leave me unable to do my job well.

So, I opted to have surgery to try to fix it. I had the stapedectomy one week ago and still have occasional 'motion sickness', usually in the morning. I also have sharp pains infrequently in the operated ear and find that my jaw has a burning pain sometimes like I had with TMJ many years ago.

I also asked the doc if a temporary sensory-neural hearing loss twenty-five years ago (12 weeks post-partum) could have been related at all. My right ear was never as good as the left after that but the ENT said it was not enough to worry about at that time. Has anybody else had that experience before being diagnosed?

I've also suffered from migraines from about eight years old. A couple years ago, I noticed after a particularly strong visual aura, one side of my head was numb. Now I wonder if that might have been a warning sign. So many ponderings today....
