    Fast heart rate

Hi, lately about a year or so any movement causes my heart rate to race. My resting rate used to be 64 now 82. If I walk to 10 steps to bext room jumps to 105. Recently I had the flu and it was in 150s. I had echo and ekg done. Wore a halter monitor for 24 hrs. According to my doctor everything is fine, but it doesn’t feel right. I used to be pretty active then hurt my foot which forced me to in resting mode for a few months which I think triggered this whole thing.
What should I do? This is scary.

Hi...I suggest you request to be sent to a cardiac specialist for a more thorough investigation.

Did your doc check hormones...thyroid, cortisol, adrenal, etc?

    Re: Fast heart rate

Tatum46, are you seeing a cardiologist? If you are, maybe you want to get a second opinion?
A resting heart rate should never be in the 80s..how are you calculating this? The best way to calculate it is as soon as you wake up, before you step out of bed...lie quietly in your bed and take your heartrate for 15 seconds and multiply by 4.

If you are using a heart rate monitor, they are not all accurate, so please do not go by this...have someone take it for you if you cant get it accurately on your own; but please call your doctor or call the cardiac office and request another appointment. Most cardiac offices have more than one doctor, maybe see another doc?

Thank you so much for responding, they only checked my thyroid. I will make another appointment and ask to be tested for what you suggested.

    Re: Fast heart rate

    Hi tatum46.

There are some great, low cost, generic heart medications that calm down the heart and help it to beat better.

In my case, my heart NEVER wants to beat correctly. If I stop taking my meds, my heart would race at 160 bpm or higher and it would jump all over the place, missing beats, double beats, etc.

So... I take a very small dose of very inexpensive Coreg and a very tiny dose of digoxin and my heart is happy most of the time, and so am I.

Regardless of the cause of your fast heart rate, you might ask your doctor if you can get on a low dose of some cheap, generic heart medication to calm your heart and lower your anxiety.

    Regards, Bob
