    Copy of reports for ultrasound

I will be getting an echocardiography done soon but wondering if i can get a detailed copy of it? Unlike a xray which i canget a copy off, how do i get a report copy of this since it is a live image thing? Can we request to get the video copy of the entire ultrasound? Also for othr tests like CT scan, etc can we get the complete report copies with image/video?

Hi, Sure, you should be able to get a copy - either on CD or DVD. Then you can play the video files on your PC. Mine came with a suitable image play program on the CD. There are also image photos (stills) which open with the common PC picture viewers.
I found this info. quite valuable as I could send it overseas for specialists there to view and give their opinions on. I asked the cardiologist because I was not sure the technician had the authority to release it. I try to do this for all my tests. These days the hospitals and heart clinics don't want to store the films etc so they are happy to hand them over.
    Cheers, Beefy.

    Hi,
With many tests, like Echocardiograms, Myocardial ("nuclear or thallium") Perfusion scans and Angiograms, the equipment varies from lab to lab., and the newer machines are giving a lot more detail. Some might say too much detail! (The new echocardio. machine I saw the other day looked like a "mothership" from space. Blame GE for that.)
Recently, my GP had my Stress-test Perfusion Scans on his desk and said he "would be kidding himself" if he thought he could interpret the films and pictures. So we rely on the technical reports/analysis by the DR doing the test. After all they do that sort of thing every day.
I think in most cases now the GP just sees the written report - about 1 page or less - which is filed in the computer record against the patient's name. They are busy and it's the summary they want. They read it out to you and when they do I ask for a printout. I have never been refused. (I presume some GPs would have the films and pictures on their computer too but mine does not - no doubt it will come.)
The specialist is different - he may want to go back to the original film or photo to look at the detail. This is why I try to keep hold of the films and files - wherever and whenever possible. I want as much detail as I can get hold of!

Exactly. This is my only concern. If i am paying loads of cash for any test i want all the copies, images, videos - even inch of them, not just a 1 page written copy. It's easy with blood tests etc but i am not sure about MRI's, echos and stuff like Endopscopies, etc how to get the A to Z of the reports. Ayways though i'll let you know later, got the test on the 17th so i'll see how it goes.
