ECG ok but odd

I've been getting palpitations and very light headed recently so my doctor did an ECG. When the results came back he said that they looked ok, but a bit odd. How can they be ok but odd?

Re: ECG ok but odd

Sorry that you are having problems with palpitations and lightheadedness. What were you doing, at the time, when you got lightheaded? Do you constantly have palpitations? Did you have them during the ECG?

ECGs show how well the heart's electrical system is working. Doctors use ECGs to help them to help evaluate how well your heart is working. You went to him in the hopes of getting a proper evaluation. If all the doctor could say is that the ECG results were "odd", then it sounds like you did not get a proper evaluation. You expected "odd results" because you were having heartbeat problems. What did your doctor expect you to do, read and evaluate the ECG yourself, or read his mind?!

You might want to call his office and get a copy of the ECG with his notes and summary diagnoses.

I take it that he is not a heart specialist or a cardiologist? I would expect an "odd" comment from a doctor who does not have a lot of training or experience properly reading ECGs.

⇒ From 2008-2017 BP was 119/69; readings:7,514

Re: ECG ok but odd

The first time I experienced the palpitations I had just done a 2 hour drive and the palpitations lasted from early evening right through into the next day. I put it down to nerves due to meeting new family members.
I have been getting palpitations since on a daily basis and also light headedness, but not necessarily together. The light headedness and palpitations come on at any times. Sometimes I am just resting, other times I may be at work (office job - not extremely stressful). I've also been getting extremely tired lately so have text my nurse at the hospital today to ask her when my cortisol levels were last checked.
My doctor is not a heart specialist and has sent my ECG onto the cardio team at the hospital.
