they won't force him to go to hospital? Somebody tell me what to do.

I need help and no where to turn. My husband is out of it today, I am so tired and sick now. He has hep-c and final stage of cirrhosis. I called the ER and told them I thought his ammonia level was sky high and he was falling around and talking out of his head. I'm cleaining up behind him everywhere and he has tore down curtains and everything trying to stand up. The ER told me that I can not force him to go to the hospital. I could get an ambulance to take him only if he goes voluntary. What am I going to do?

you probably can't get ahold of your doctor either because of the holiday? Hopefully he'll come to reason ...

The dr office had a recording to call the hospital and the on call dr would be there. I called hours ago and he has not called me back. It's not getting any better. I don't know what to do. I can't keep lifting him up when he falls, he is 220 and I am 100 pounds. This has been the worst day of my life.

Do you know anyone in your local police department who you can talk to and may be able to help you? Do you have any family members near by? It's hard to convince someone who' "out of it" that they need to be in the hospital.
I was just thinking --if the local police or EMT's realize that he is non compos mentis-maybe they'd get him in the hospital--before YOU end up getting hurt.

Re: they won't force him to go to hospital? Somebody tell me what to do.

no, i don't know anyone on the police force. the dr from hospital never even called me back. this sucks. he was denied disability again 2 weeks ago. he applied in 2005 and we have not received a penny from anyone... because i work. after today, he can not even be alone. don't know how i'm going to work. i really don't know what to do. i can't believe that no one would help me today. too tired to try anything else now, must try to sleep. my poor husband is all bruised up from falling. this a terrible thing for him to go through... for both of us. not even friends or family seem to want to help... they just say he brought it on himself. geeze. thank you for answering me. i have been searching the web trying to find out what i can do and i still don't know. at least he's not mean any more. Just pitiful. I thought I had educated myself enough to be ready for this... guess not. Good night.

just checking in to see how you are doing?
My father in law had ammonia in his system before he passed away and it was horrible to see him so out of it.
Can't you just get him into the ER to get his level lowered?

Now that he's coherent-perhaps you can get him to write something,
    (if he agrees with you),
to the effect that IF he is in the same state again,
he wants to go to the ER to be treated.
I don't know if it'll hold water or not, but you were in an awful position.
I'm glad you're doing ok today
