    Henia Surgery or not?

have been diagnosed a hernia in the groin ( male ) have no pain and it`s not to big, have been to see the docs who said leave it but in my wisdom i decided to get another opinion, they refered me to the hospital who had a look and recomended that I had it fixed ( this is the uk with NHS ) with keyhole surgery, the problem I have is firstly I have never had an operation before so the thought of having anesthetic feels me with fear and secondly when I was looked at when in the hospital the consultant went though the pros and cons but did say "you may not be in pain at the moment but it has a slight chance of it being painfull afterwards but we can sort that out " whatever that is, on further investigation I have found that there is apparently a concern with the mesh that is used which is what I assume he was referring to, if you type hernia mesh into google you get alot of info about the problems with this mesh, I`m in a real dilemma what should I do leave it for a bit or take a chance? this is really worrying me I just don`t know which way to turn this is not something that I`m a little concerned about it`s on my mind all the time and I don`t know who to talk to about it
this is the first time I have posted on here in the hope that I can get some advice
    thanks

The mesh is really no big deal.I have it from abdominal hernia done over twenty years ago.I never even gave it a though t. If you dont have surgery, the hernia can keep popping and become strangulated. Then you
    need emergency procedure.

Hello mate. I'd like to ask you what you have done with your hernia treatment. Have you used the mesh repair? I'm having this problem now. I live in the UK and the option the NHS offer for hernia treatment is mesh repair. There are some negatives comments on that type of treatment but some others didn't experience any problems. Yes i know it's many years since you last posted but i would appreciate your comments.

Blimey, I forgot that I had posted on here, yes I did get it done, Feb 2019 at Oxford Hernia, I went private in the end, they do it by cutting open and laying the mesh in rather than NHS keyhole where the mesh goes under, the way I did it I wasn`t put under just made the area dead, didn`t feel a thing, I did opt for the old fashioned way at first which they offered but at the last minute I changed my mind and went with the mesh. I was making myself ill worrying about this with all the mesh stories, I ve had no problems at all, I also work with 2 people who had it done on NHS with mesh also have had no problems, I hope this helps, and good luck.
