    Question Hiatial Hernia Surgery

Anybody ever have surgery to repair a hiatial hernia? How was it? Could you eat right after the surgery? What was the recovery time?

My doc thinks I should have surgery but I want to know what it's like before I commit. Your advice and/or experiences are appreciated!

Hi! What kind of symptoms do you have that your doctor feels you should have hiatal hernia surgery? My surgeon that removed my GB told me that generally speaking surgeons don't operate on hiatal hernias. My mother had hiatal hernia and gall bladder surgery done a few years ago and had it done the open way, not laproscopically, but that's because she was bleeding internally and throwing up blood. Her hiatal hernia was very severe and when the surgeon was in there he also found her gall bladder was filled with stones so he removed that as well. As for eating and recovery, my mom's recovery was very long because there were some complications that never should have happened, so she wasn't the standard case to compare with. Do you know if your doctor wants you to have the surgery done laproscopically? I think any surgery that is done this way probably has a faster recovery period. Maybe someone out there knows more about surgery for hiatal hernias since all I know about it what happened with my mother.
