Herpes! Help! Can my test be wrong ?

Itís been two weeks since Iíve tested positive for HSV 1 and HSV 2 . I canít believe it and so many questions are crossing my mind . The last time I had a blood test for STD Ďs was 2 years ago n it came back negative for herpes . Iíve been in a almost 3 year relationship I recently stepped out this year when I found out my boyfriend was still having relations with the mother of his children . Iím not sure who it came from. I tested at 50 index for HSV 1 and 11.8 for HSV 2 my test were done at LabCorp I am taking another test they say mainly for insurance purposes . But is there a chance my test could be wrong ? When I got my blood work done I was on antibiotic for a tooth infection which gave me a yiest infection n I also take lithium n risperadol for bipolar depression. Would that affect the test ? I only got tested bc it was my annual check up time . I told the people who I had sex with n they are going to get tested soon . Iím so hurt , lost , n feel undeserving of this donít really have anyone to talk to about it who can really understand

My wife and are are trying to solve a diagnosis mystery, too, so we've done a lot of research.

Basically, be aware that there's an unsettlingly high rate of false results from standard (IGG) blood tests for HSV1 and HSV2 - both false negatives and false positives. Culture tests, where the doctor gets material from an actual sore, is generally more accurate.

If you've got a positive result from a blood test only and you have doubts, wait a month (or 2 or 3) and have yourself re-tested.

Importantly: do you have any other reasons to think you might have herpes? Have you ever had herpes symptoms? An actual outbreak which looked like herpes? Or have you had sex (or oral) with someone who has, or who likely has herpes?

    Hang in there!
