I have herpes in a most unusual area: butt crack

I was diagnosed 10 years ago by a dermatologist- the area was cultured and it was Herpes 2. It migrated from my thigh to my butt crack (try not to laugh): I have had outbreaks a couple times a year and most of the time it goes away within 2 weeks-- I have never taken an antiviral medication for it. Now I have had it for 3 weeks and just was prescribed acylovir cream which doesn't seem to help: I am upset because it just is not going away and it is pretty uncomfortable. I am thinking of trying other things like Vagisil--- I am getting to my wits end- Any ideas would be welcome and thanks for listening.

Ask your doc for systemic oral acyclovir asap.

    Don't use vagisil.

Thank you for you reply: I have Valtrex but I am not using it because it can cause injury to the kidneys: I am 78 years old with urinary retention which puts a strain on my kidneys. I am trying to deal with that issue (trying to get fitted with a pessary but then the herpes came a long and I had to cancel that appt).

Try L-Lysine? Do some research and see if that would be an option. There is a topical as well...

Yes! L-Lysine is fantastic! I have been using it for years rather than a prescription and at the first small tingle, I take it and 95%, cold sore never forms. During the 5% of the time it does develop, I continue to take 1 L-Lysine/day until is goes away as well as apply a cold sore topical medication like abreva. In rare instances and this was before L-Lysine, I would scrub them with soap and water but don't recommend this!

Do you take it in Oral or topical form?

Oral 1000mg twice daily. And use the topical as well to see if it helps.

Yep! I take it orally. Got the supplement from grocery store. Didn't know it came in a topical form so might try that next time. Usually don't use topicals except in the rare instances it forms because the oral pill takes care of it if I start taking it soon enough!
