    Cold sore - so frustrated!

Since I was a kid, I've gotten 1-2 cold sores/year. It's like clockwork and I absolutely would do ANYTHING to get rid of them for good. Should I go see a doctor? Any other advice?

I just started taking Lysine and I bought Abreva and that seems to help but I want it to go away permanently. I have to keep my head down for a week because I'm so ashamed.

I read in another thread that food containing arganine may trigger an outbreak, can anyone give me more info on what this is and what types of food contain it. If I happen to eat these foods, is there anything I can do.

    Any help/advice is GREATLY appreciated

    brown rice
    caffeine
    chocolate
    coconut
    nuts
    nut products
    oatmeal
    raisins
    seeds
    whole wheat bread

These are listed at a herpes sites as high in Arginine...also avoid high acid foods during your OB of cold sores. I'd suggest that if you eat something high in Arginine, take extra lysine pills that day! Heck, I eat most of these on a daily basis...jeez! What a pain! Anyway, keep your lysine and abreva on hand because the best thing to do is as soon as the first sign of redness appears you need to put that on it!!!!!!!! Garlic oil is also good, I just open a gel cap and squeeze it on. I don't get it on my face but my BF does so I have to make sure he uses this...haha! Also we take Cimetidine at first signs of on OB, me genitally and him on his face. His genital OBs are so mild that he doesn't take anything for it but the face OB can be horrible! I have a thread started about how to use Cimetidine to treat herpes. This works for ME and my BF! But again, you have to start it at first sign!

    POPCORN!
    Stay away from popcorn.
No more movie popcorn for me ... Oh well it's bad for you anyways.
I recall 2 times now ( I have struggled with severe cold sores for many years) that after my girlfriend and I went to see a movie and shared a bag of nasty buttery popcorn, I woke up with the stage 1 sign of a cold sore.
