Question OB's from HSV-1 genital VS. OB's from HSV-2 genital

Does it mean that because I have HSV-1 (genital) that my OB's won't be as severe or frequent as if I had HSV-2? My doctor told me, that in a way, I was "fortunate" to have HSV-1......any comments if this is true or not? My initial OB a month and a half ago was very severe.

That's the general theory. However, the responses from people on this board indicate that many people with genital HSV1 seem to suffer as badly as those with genital HSV2. I don't know if they are the exceptions to the rule, but if so, there seem to be quite a few exceptions!

If you had both genital 1 and 2 and had an OB, how would you know which one was giving you the OB?

You really wouldn't know which one is flaring up. An outbreak is an outbreak and I think there are about 60+ different "strains" of the herpes virus. You just learn to deal with it. It's a good idea to keep a journal/log of when your ob's occur, that way you'll learn your "triggers" stress, foods, illness, menstral, ect. Keep in mind, ob's lessen with time.
