Herpes HSV1 first outbreak and lingering flu symptoms??

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to this board. Was just diagnosed w/HSV1 Dec. 12 - it is a new infection for me - I started having flu-like symptoms that week.

It's been nearly three weeks now and over that time I've had a couple spots on my lips tingle and swell - whereupon i took valtrex and lysine and supplements and the tingling/swelling went away - but the flu symptoms are persisting. I have a headache, sore throat, intermittent congestion and swollen glands in my neck that I can feel but not see.

Anyone else have these symptoms for this long??? Can't wait to feel better and looking for reassurance that what I'm experiencing is not uncommon...

I have genital HSV2 but my situation was similar. The first few months can be tough because your body is learning to recognize and fight the virus. Try to eat well, get plenty of sleep and pamper yourself more. For me hot bubble baths with epsom salts not only soothed my itchies and aches and muscle pain but gave me some time to just RELAX for a half hour and stop the rushing around.

I usually get cold sores on the side of my mouth that end up scabbing over. I've used HSV-Zero on them at night (it's a brown color so I don't use it in public), and they dry out and heal much faster. I'd say maybe 3 days instead of the usual 10.
