Total Cholesterol is 202 ... Borderline high

I am a male 51 years. Not smoking and quit drinking 8 months back and a vegetarian.

Recently I have tested my blood for lipid profile and found that my total cholesterol is 202 and the report says it is "borderline high".

    My other numbers are

    HDL - 48
    LDL - 117
    VLDL - 37
    Triglycerides - 183

My height is 171cm and weight is 73 kgs.

I do brisk walking for one hour every day and cover around 6 to 7 km.

What should I do to bring down both triglycerides and the total cholesterol?

Can any one give their views please?

Your total cholesterol is actually alittle higher than it should be. I also have problems with triglycerides. One of the things which makes the biggest difference for me is taking Fish Oil supplements. When I take them regularly, I see a difference, they come down.
You have to make sure you are taking a high quality fish oil- not a drug store variety. You can go to your local health food store and see what they recommend. Talk to them about triglycerides specifically. I take a brand called Nordic Naturals, the Super Omegas. They have the highest amounts of all the different Omegas. But, any good brand will help.

    Good luck!

Actually, only your triglycerides are high at 3.8 and you want it <2.0. Your HDL and LDL are fine. I agree with the previous poster about paying attention to your oil intake in order to address your triglyceride number.

    All the best with this,

    Tess

Bring up your hdl. Oat bran, steel cut oats, fiber, fish oil, a acadoes, pistasio nuts. Be sure to drink lots of water. If you like beets they are really good for you. I hate them but read they are great. Low carbs is really helpful. Oddly look up liver healthy recipies. Cholesterol is made in the liver.

Re: Total Cholesterol is 202 ... Borderline high

I am about 20 points higher than you 224 in total. And I have been taking fish oil, and it only lowers down triglyceride, (Two years ago, I was 260 HIGHT!! now I am only 105) .

I am still taking it, but i don't think this will help much in lower total cholesterol.. I am thinking of taking b3, but then I heard some negative thing about b3 or niacin.
