    Question Niacin and homocyst(e)ine levels

    Anyone on niacin therapy?

    I started a statin drug about 9 yrs ago.
    My starting whole cholesterol was around 226.
    I reluctantly started the Simvastatin 50mg.

    After being on the drug I saw some change, not much, but; trigs went up big time!

    My doctor and I had both read a great study on Niacin and I began clinical doses of 500mg nightly for 1 month and increased the dose by 500mg's every 4 weeks until I reached 2000mg's.

    Talk about amazing!
    HDL went up, LDL went down along with trigs and my whole chol was 142...

    Having said that, those numbers remain to date excellent! {I am now 67 years old.}
    {My doctor that started me on the Niacin therapy transferred to another state and I've had a new doctor for 2 years and he is aware and fine with the therapy.}

    Here's where I'd appreciate some feedback...

    I have bloodwork every 6 months and I have great results, liver, kidney etc. Perfect!
    I went to a Health Foods Unlimited for some probiotics and was chatting with one of the
    nutritional techs and she asked what medications and supplements I was taking.
    *When I told her I was taking 2000mg's nightly of Niacin she said "WHAT?"
    I asked why the reaction, and she began to rant that my Homocysteine levels would be crazy high and that I shouldn't be taking that much Niacin...
    I told her that I felt great and my bloodwork was great after all these years.
    She just shook her head and I said, "Do you know more than my doctor?"

    Question.... I am doing great on the instant release Niacin and my question is....
    *Is anyone else on this board taking high doses of Niacin at or near my level and if so, how are you doing?
