How much COQ10 should I take with 20 mg Lipitor?

Hi all...

Sorry for two posts in one day, but wanted to ask the experts...now that I'm going back on Lipitor 20 mg...I want to know how much COQ10 I need to take each day? I forgot to ask my doctor about that today.

Thanks!

Take a form that has HIGH BIOAVAILABILTY (like Q gel). I take 100 mg daily of that formulation (I take Crestor as well), which is equivalent to 300mg of *standard* formulations.

How do you know if it has High Bioavailability? I've looked online at several types of CoQ10 but there is not mention of it. Is this something that can be quantified? (i.e. mg)

Do a web search for Q-Gel or Jarrow Q10.

Ok, I found Jarrow QAbsorb, but now don't know if I should take 30 mg or 100 mg per day....since you said that 100 mg is equivalent to 300 mg. I've read in a few online articles that statin users should take about 100 mg...but I don't know if that means 100 mg regular (non gel) or 100 mg QGel???

This stuff is confusing!

Thanks.

Miriam7,
I take Q-Gel 100mg daily. The info says if you have heart disease, take between 100-200mg per day. It is very expensive, but I hope that it is worth it. Read the info (hint hint) and it will tell you how much to take. I paid $79 for 180 count of 100mg softgels. Good luck

That's one HECK of a price ! Was that for Q GEL, or some other soft gel? I paid $115 for 180 Q Gels. Where did you get it?

Rahod,

I think that I was wrong on the price (I know I was)....I think it was more like $117, shipping and all. Sorry, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, lol.

Edit
I got it at Mike* Epi* Health

Re: How much COQ10 should I take with 20 mg Lipitor?

I found *******'s CoQ10 for $29 for 60 100mg softgels = 50 cents per pill.

$117 for 180 = 65 cents.

My only question is if this is the 'correct' high quality coq10 you guys are talking about...

http://www.***************.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&productId=12494&keyWor d=q-gel

[edit] it's swan*son*vitamins in the *'s[edit]

I would appreciate if someone could confirm... thanks!

- chris

That's not the place I got mine. Do a google on "hydrosoluable COQ-10", and look for the above info I gave to find the site.

Re: How much COQ10 should I take with 20 mg Lipitor?

Regardless of the brand of CoQ10 you are taking, it is difficult to determine your ideal dose unless you are actually having it measured as part of your blood test. There is also the absorption factor to consider. Generally, CoQ10 is not absorbed very well. It may not be as big of an issue for people who are not taking statins, but for those who are taking them it would probably be best to ask your doctor to include this test. That way, you can get a better idea of what your ideal dose should be.
