    Question Lipitor/Zetia connection

My husband has been on Lipitor (80 mg a day) for eight years. It never brought down his cholesterol at all. Doctor put him on Zetia and his cholesterol went from over 300 to 175 in 6 months.

My husband is very passive in dealing with doctors. I want him to question why he needs lipitor AND zetia both.

Is it necessary to be on both of these meds?

I am very much into getting by on the least amount of drugs possible.
My husband is of the old school, whatever doctor says goes.

    Any comments please.
    Jane

    Jane,

Your husband seems to be an anomaly in not getting his cholesterol numbers down with 80 mg. Lipitor.

I'd say that IF the Lipitor had no effect, then it's silly to continue taking it. Is there any possibility of counterfeit drugs?
Be more specific about his numbers before and after the Lipitor 80's.

Zetia alone will NOT give great results.

WE get our meds from Caremark so I doubt if they are counterfeit.
I cannot find his specific numbers before the Zetia anywhere. I just remember the total was 356.
I did find the numbers after the Zetia: Total: 143, LDL 62 HDL 63 TRI 88.

Call his doctor and get his exact numbers before he started Lipitor; after taking it for awhile; and then with Lipitor + Zetia.

Without these numbers it's hard to generalize.

In truth I don't think it's possible to stay in the 300's both before and after 80 mg. Lipitor.
The drug in that highest dosage is just too powerful to show no effect.
    Something doesn't add up.

    Re: Lipitor/Zetia connection

    Lenin,

I work for a guy who had a son-in-law whose TC was always in the 300's. I guess he tried all of the available Statins at the time and it simply would not lower it, or so he says. He just became frustrated and went off of them altogether. But this was before Zetia as well. But I know, what you mean though...it seems rather strange that 80Mg. would not even budge it. Strong dose.
    And again,
what my boss , without actual numbers, told me is nothing more than generalization. It helps to see actual before and after numbers.
