    I don't want to die young :(

I have high cholesterol you know? I just found out my testosterone is low, and on top of everything I have anxiety which I hear even raises cholesterol

It seems like a sure fire way to early death as all of these are risk factors for heart disease, I'm only 21 and I used to be incredibly active and lift weights a lot and very outgoing and happy but then anxiety hit me and now I'm a major hypochondriac who feels death is around the corner all the time

I love my life so much, I couldn't ask for a better life, but I get sad thinking it's all going to be cut short

Is there ANYYYTTHIINNGG anyone can say that will comfort my burden heart? That maybe stress is a risk factor but it takes a loonnngg time to do damege or something? or that high cholesterol isen't really a risk factor? which I heard many many times

and you know what's funny, before when I was lifting weights I was gaining muscle pretty easily, but then I got freaked out by my cholesterol readings and started to cut out most if not all saturated fat, that is probably why my testosterone is low plus the stress from anxiety

anyways yea guys, please help me, comfort me somehow I really need it

ps, I posted this on the high cholesterol forum too, I just wasen't sure where to put this

Do you know how your cholesterol got out of control? What is your diet like? You're very young and it's highly unlikely you will suffer long-term effects from this if you take control now. Does it run in your family?

Re: I don't want to die young:(

I believe my cholesterol was fine when I had a diet that was just pretty regular but excluded red meats, lots of chicken though, and I was exercising intensely like almost everyday, then I got on a quest to bulk up because I wanted to be bigger so I ate EVERYTTHING in sight potato chips, red meat, hot dogs, even fried stuff, so yea then it shot back up, I had high cholesterol as a teen too but at that time my diet was the worst ever and I did not exercise at all, I am going to get blood work done this coming monday but the whole anxiety raising cholesterol thing just worries me because honestly I've done plenty of things right to lower it but it seems like my anxiety counter-acted everything

whats the likelihood of me actually dying? I have absolutely no family history, not even high cholesterol, except my dad but he has it because he has diabetes , my mom is in her 50s and never had any health problems, my grandpa is almost 80 and never had anything at all, basically all my uncles and aunts as well have no health issue whatsoever, this comforts me but I'm still scared guys

Highly unlikely. What were your actual numbers? Was your "good" cholesterol low?

If you get your diet and cardio exercise on track then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. What I'm concerned about more is where your anxiety is coming from at the root.

It was really good, it was 57 I believe, the doctor told me when he saw it that "your HDL is good which means your exercising like you're supposed to" but I just hope it didn't go down because I'm not exercising as much as before I had these anxiety issues, mainly because whenever my heartrate goes up from exercising I go all crazy, I do a lot of walking though and I'm picking up on yoga

thank you greatly for replying to me by the way, and the root cause of my anxiety is a very interesting question, I do not know

well I'm not afraid of dying per say, I keep saying if I do have a heart attack I hope it'd kill me instantly, I guess I'm afraid of pain or developing an illness for the rest of my life

    Mike,

What are your actual figures. Total Cholesterol, LDL, Triglycerides, and is the HDL of 57 correct?

These will help us to determine your ratios' etc.

Don't worry, your not going to die from high cholesterol induced problems just yet.

    Yack.

Re: I don't want to die young:(

I'm sorry, I dont have the results with me, but I know my trigs were pretty high and my ratio was a 5.0, but things to consider is before that test I wasn't fasting, in fact I just got done eating a burger from a fast food restaurant, I am hoping that can construe with the trig results the total cholesterol was close to 280 I think and it's weird because I'm slim and fit too

Re: I don't want to die young:(

I was going to ask if you had all your numbers as well, but see you have posted as having high Trigs. and you weren't fasting. You definately need to fast for at least 8 hrs. before a lipid panel is done. Yes, even very slim people can have high cholesterol. Unless your numbers are totally off the wall, I doubt your going to die from it, so please relax.

I seriously think you need to talk with your Dr. and get your anxiety under control, as that will cause more problems then your cholesterol numbers. Also try getting back on your "good" diet and maybe get a small doseage of something to get you through this anxiety problem.

Let us know how your numbers are now and try keeping calm...JJ...

Re: I don't want to die young:(

Yeah my anxiety is not as bad as it sounds from these posts lol but sometimes I just have real bad days, I know for a fact that my anxiety keeps me from progressing in life, cholesterol I can definitely handle but it's the anxiety that's my real problem so Im seeing the doctor tomorrow and getting some lab work done and see what we can do about this anxiety here, thank you for your replies

edit: oh and also the trigs were like a bit over 150 maybe even around that which I hear is not that bad especially considering I wasn't fasting, so I hope that's a good sign

Re: I don't want to die young:(

Trigs. of 150 are not that bad at all. Just try to get your ratio down to below 4. Your ratio is your TC divided by your HDL.....280/57=5. Not all that bad for a non fasting lipid panel.

You can do this with each number TC..LDL..and Trigs. To get your VLDL (very low density level) divide your Trigs. by 5. So if yours were 150/5=30, they like it below 30 so all in all..your definately NOT dying.......

Get your anxiety under control, get back to a good way of eating and exercise and you will be just fine.

    All the best....JJ....

Re: I don't want to die young :(

Hey guys just wanted to update as I got my cholesterol results and I would deeply appreciate some feedback and insight

    Total Cholesterol: 207 (Normal <200)
    Triglycerides: 88 (Normal <180)
HDL "good" Cholesterol: 43 (Normal >40)
LDL "Bad" Cholesterol: 146 (Normal <160)

I know my HDL must've went down because I stopped exercising as much as I used to, but I'm getting into it again, so anyways is everything ok with me? Thanks guys!

    Mike......

You already know what we are going to say.... Just work on the HDL and the below ratios will change for the better.
Many members here would love ratios' like yours.

TC/HDL - 4.8 Low to medium - Only slightly over. (<4.5 Low risk)
    LDL/HDL - 3.4 low to medium - Slightly over. (<3.2 Low risk)
Trigs/HDL - 2.0 - Optimum (<2.0) Most accurate ratio to determine 10 year advance warning for heart probs.

Sound a lot better than the figures you plucked out of the air.

    Panic over.

    Yack.

Re: I don't want to die young :(

Sorry Yack, those aern't my intentions at all, I just know theres a lot of mathematic tricks to read between the lines with these lipid profiles and I don't know them and you did them for me, thank you I will definately work on HDL, any suggestions? Would exercising again bring it up?

Also, those previous numbers were my honest numbers, I had total in 280ish or so and I was worried about that which is the reason I created this thread, once again sorry if your offended

Re: I don't want to die young :(

Not bad at all. I definately think exercise will bring up the HDL. Your VLDL (very low density level) is 18 Trigs. divided by 5, which is WAY good as they like them below 30.

Looks like you worked hard and it paid off!!!

Anytime you want to get your ratios..just divide your TC..LDL..Trigs. by your HDL. Your TC divided by your HDl of 43 is 4.8 as Yack said.

    Best wishes....JJ...

Re: I don't want to die young :(

Thank you so much JJ, the vLDL are the bad ones that actually do damage right? Despite all this, my doctor told me it takes a really long time for any kind of cholesterol related plaque to build up, is that true as well? I've also handled my anxiety and practiced a lot of stress reduction and now I feel like on a dopamine high all the time, maybe cause I incorporated dark chocolate into my diet now though who knows

regardless, thank you guys so much for helping me ease my mind, you are good people
