    Strange Cholesterol VAP Lab Results

    Hi guys,

So I've always had somewhat high cholesterol, but recently my results have given my doctor some pause as they have continued trending upward. He decided to do a VAP test a few weeks ago, but has been unable to provide me with a proper interpretation. I thought that maybe posting it here would help me in analyzing the results.

Here's a little relevant health info about me in case it helps interpreting -- about 2.5 years ago I decided to start eating vegetarian (still eat lots of eggs and a fair amount of dairy, mostly cheese/yogurt). I tend to try eating a diet of fewer grains and higher fat, but stay away from vegetable oils--I cook with coconut oil or butter. I also get a decent amount of exercise (usually 4+ days a week). With that in mind, do you think I should be worrying about these numbers?

    VAP Lab Results - 2/12/15

    TOTAL LDL - 253
    LDL-R (REAL) - 212
    Lp(a) CHOL - 10
    IDL CHOL - 31
    TOTAL HDL - 86
    HDL2 - 23
    HDL3 - 63
    TOTAL VLDL - 29
    VLDL 1+2 - 11.8
    VLDL 3 - 17
    TOTAL CHOL - 368
    TRIGLYCERIDES - 121
    NON HDL CHOL - 282
    REMNANT LIPOPRO - 48
    LDL DENS PATTERN
    LDL SUBCLASS 1 - 58.3 mg/dL
    LDL SUBCLASS 2 - 101.0 mg/dL
    LDL SUBCLASS 3 - 46.9 mg/dL
    LDL SUBCLASS 4 - 6.3 mg/dL
    APOPLIPOPROTEIN A1 - 219
    APOLIPOPROTEIN B100 - 164
    APO B100A1 RATIO - 0.75

Thanks a lot for your help!

Not sure what some of the numbers mean however from what I have read the ratios are very important. I can see that your total cholesterol and LDL are very high but with having very high HDL and low triglycerides your ratios are very good. Personally, I would try to get my cholesterol numbers down under 300 by losing weight and exercising more and of course eating less meat and staying away from white bread. Going on meds isn't good for your body so that would be the last thing I would do. I know most doctors would not agree with my advise. Good luck.
