Sodium Intake Question
Hi there,
I am a 180lb 5'9 male. 23 yrs old. I am creating a diet that provides every daily recommend value of micronutrients, as well as my customized macronutrient ratio. The daily recommended intake of Sodium in 2,300 mg. However, I know you have to balance your sodium and potassium at about a 1:1 ratio. The diet plan is complete and I am intaking about 3,500 mg of sodium and 4,000 mg of potassium per day. I believe the science behind a high sodium intake results in higher blood pressure is backed by the average American intaking FAR more sodium than potassium and not being balanced. However for me, this is not the case. The reason for concern is because I have family history of high blood pressure on both sides and my blood pressure has occasionally been high at some points depending on my current diet. I guess what I'm asking is if it is okay to intake 3,500 mg per day of sodium when I am "combating" it with a 4,000 mg per day potassium intake.
