    SCUBA diving and HTN

I would like to take up SCUBA diving but PADI (certification process) lists hypertension as a "disqualifier" for sport diving. If the hypertension is controlled, is there any reason why I shouldn't be able to get a doctor's okay to participate?
    Thanks for any info

I would think that CONTROLLED BP is as good as naturally normal BP. I think it's just the mechanical effect of the additional "pressures of the deep" that are of holding one's breath during a heavy bench press.
