Safe bp when exercising?
What is considered to be safe BP when exercising..I know it elevates, but how high can it go without it being dangerous?

Re: Safe bp when exercising?

Not sure of your gender but I've heard that in women, the systolic blood pressure (top number) should not increase more than 60 points above their baseline....OR above 190, whichever one is lower.

Let's say your resting systolic blood pressure is 120. Your peak blood pressure should not increase above 180 while exercising.

I would imagine this should apply to men as well.

Zulu, you are exactly right. I did a stress test sometime ago and they monitor the blood pressure continually. It started out at 120/80. He took me to my maximum heart rate and it peaked at 180/80. He said that was perfectly normal.

I did a little test the other day. I got my HR up to 175 then tested my BP and it was 138/74 and before I started the exertion it was around 117/74. My max HR is 203.

Re: Safe bp when exercising?
Thanks zuzu! (I don't exercise much, though :|) I have 138/74 when being nervous! :P It's really amazing how much emotions affect BP.

Yes, I'm 17. No medication heh. I don't think doctors would put someone my age on meds. At the paticular time of exercise, that's all my body figured I needed for pressure.
