Post Should I be worried?

When I sit still and look at a bright wall, or the sky, I can see the beating of my heart in my eyes, like a kind of pulse. This has been there for about a year, I think. I can also feel my heart beat when I sit still.

I am 19 years old. Not overweight at all, and I run 3 to 4 times a week. My heart beat is a normal speed.

I was reading that with HBP blood vessels or something can burst in your eyes, so I thought I'd better look into it. Thanks for any input.

Re: Should I be worried?

Hi I get his too. Do not think it is anything to be worried about though. For someone of your age, in good health, I believe it just has something to do with the light refraction of the eye. Unless you are diabetic or have some kind of retinopathy, I doubt if the bloods vessels in your eye would just burst. Very unlikely.

Re: Should I be worried?

The awareness of your heart beating is usually just a case of hypervigilance.
Nothing to worry about.

What you are referring to is the fact that a doctor can look into an eye at the retina and determine the effect of hypertension long-term. He's not looking for bursting but rather for "notching" that is, the impression that one blood vessel at high pressure will make when crossing over another at low pressure...after many rears the "notch" is etched permanently in the low pressure vessel.
That's the way my cardiologist explained it to me.

Best way to tell if you have hypertension is with a digital sphygmomanometer.
