How long does it take to control blood pressure

I am a 61 yr. old male and weigh 177 lbs. This past March, I went for a physical and discovered that I had high blood pressure (160/100). I have gone through several types of medication searching for the correct combination. Since August, I have been on Zestril, a diuretic and a potassium tablet everyday and my readings are 130/85 thru 137/82 ( my last reading on 12/22/00). Since March, I have been to the doctor's 19 times and had 5 blood tests and I am scheduled to go again on Jan 28 & 29. That is more than twice a month.
The question that I have - is this a normal amount of visits and blood tests or is the doctor jerking me along. I'm tired of going to the doctor all the time.
I need some advise!

Re: How long does it take to control blood pressure

A lady I know has 130 over 80 and takes Monopril plus for blood pressure. Without it the BP is 160 over 110. She goes to the doctor every 2 or 3 months to check and only if she feels her pressure is high. She checks her own pressure with an electronic wrist cuff thingy. It takes just a few seconds, and she knows how she is doing. She had to go more often at first or when she changed medication to keep track of how well the medication was working. When whe got down to normal levels, the Doc told her to spread out the visits to 2 or 3 a year. If her pressure goes up and stays up she calls the doctor.

Hope this helps. If your pressure fluctuates and you don't have a way to keep track at home, you may be dancing that last dance. And your doctor feels you need him to monitor you more closely. Or maybe not.
