Young with High Blood Pressure?

I am a young female, 22 years old, and my blood pressure is usually pretty normal (can't remember the exact numbers, but there were no concerns from my doctor when I had a check-up a few months ago). Today, it was 147/91 and I feel dizzy and just weird and not myself. (It's hard to explain lol) I have recently started up running again to prepare for a 5K and I eat healthy about 6 out of 7 days of the week. I do have family history (on my dad's) side of heart disease. My grandpa had open heart surgery a few years ago, and my dad died from a heart attack at 48 years old 5 years ago. Naturally because of this, at any sign of weirdness or pain in my chest I freak myself out, even though it is probably all in my head, which could add to the stress and a higher blood pressure. But I am just worried! Any thoughts?

Re: Young with High Blood Pressure?

You need to check your pressures at home a few times per day over weeks. If it is still running >140/90 then you really should try all lifestyle measures to get it down. If after that BP is still high, then you should consider meds. First see if you really have elevated BP.

140s is nothing to worry about in the short term.....You can live for years at this pressure without a symptom.
