    Male Testosterone: Anyone w/similar experiences?

I just had my labs done:

    Testosterone 2.2 ng/mL Standard 1.8 - 6.8 ng/mL
    SHBG 23 nmol/L 13 - 90 nmol/L
    Free T 48 pg/mL 30 - 140 pg/mL

I'm a 40 y/o male that has been suffering from the following symptoms that started around 2011 and gotten worse: Extreme fatigue (mostly starting in the afternoon), zero motivation, anxiety, get hot easily/hot flashes/flushing, zero sex drive that has been the issue with last 3 dating experiences (I've been celibate for 2.5 years since), weak if any erections, 40 pound weight gain in the last 14 months, blank thoughts/hard to complete/concentrate on tasks.

These seem to be on the lower end of standard to me. I keep getting told I'm suffering from depression and tired of being given antidepressants, especially since they haven't worked.

Anyone with similar experiences? My doctor is going to discuss HRT but curious if about alleviation/benefits/side effects. I think it might be better to get advice real experiences versus generic side effects.

    Input appreciated!

My husband had some of the same symptoms that you mention. He also initially was prescribed anti-depressants, but he didn't like them. He's been using testosterone cream for the past 5 years and is very happy with it. He goes to see his urologist for check-ups, and so far, no problems. The benefits were that his mood was elevated and his energy level changed, and he lost some weight.

I have the same symptoms and still do. I'm 52 and have been doing HRT for about 2yrs. I have very low testosterone lvls. I first tried Testim topical gel 1% on both shoulders once a day. At first I was having some feelings of like a cold car trying to start, but after awhile, I started to have more energy, but my levels wasn't going any higher than 2 points. The Testim was very costly even with INS. and I had a hard time with the INS co. just to have it, because they don't like to pay for name brand drugs. Because Testim was so costly I asked my Dr. if I could do injection. The injections was much cheaper and I only had to have a shot once every 2 weeks. I had a little more results with shot then Testim. Since I didn't get any results with shot, I went back to the gel. There is a generic testosterone now. But so far, I'm not getting any results at all. Dr. has had me to double the gel to 2% with no change so far. So from this point I don't know whats next. I'm thinking I want to go back to the shots. It was a lot easier to do and a lot cheaper.

Re: Male Testosterone: Anyone w/similar experiences?

I am not familiar with Testim but as I am from Canada it is probably sold under a different name here. That is common practice with drug company's. They trademark a drug under different names for different markets I mean. I have been on injections for almost 2 years now and we saw them work immediately. We did end up moving me to a weekly dosage though as I was crashing between doses. The product is called "Depo-Testosterone Cypionate" which is a Pfizer product not that it should matter because this was a lessor product than the original that I was prescribed which became unavailable. That one was a known brandname product. I forget what it was now. In my case the reason for the lowered "T" levels is simply because my body just doesn't produce enough. Men need T for a number of reasons and when you think about it the reality is that sex is actually one of the least important reasons. Low testosterone opens us up to a whole host of issue including diseases that can over time shorten our existence. Fatigue, muscle atrophy, weight gain (can be severe actually), thinking issues, depression, cholesterol issues are thought to possibly be connected sometimes. The list of problems it can create beyond sexual just go on and on. BTW, my specialist told me that even though I have low T he has patents with actually lower T than mine who on a sexual level (similar age, 40's) are functioning just fine. With that clearly it's connection to sex is not necessarily what we think it is. That said it works that way with me now where it seemed to not be quite an important factor when I was younger.
In your case it would seem that something is nullifying the T in your body as your levels aren't increasing with injections. I don't know how that works exactly but I was tested for a number of things when my doc first prescribed and he told me that there were things that can counter it that he was looking for. Not that I am an expert but it seems to me you probably need to be looked at for other things. Maybe TRT is the wrong approach or maybe you need to treat both issues? I would go back and have a good chat with my doc if I were you.

Again as a layman looking at what you are posting here I would say you are a poster child for HRT. From what I am reading here you are not well. I went from feeling sick and tired to feeling like I am 30 or maybe younger. I am 46 and my body fat measured 11.8% yesterday when I was at the gym. It was below 9.6% but as my business gets crazy busy in the summer I can't get to the gym that much. You need to understand I have an underdeveloped urinary tract and spent my life sick. I was revived in hospital 3 times as a child. Pains, no energy, inability to think straight, urinary tract infections. On and on and on. I now live a very busy life and have energy to spare. At peak I go to work every day and work out (serious work out, no fluff) 4 times a week. I have sex drive gallor and now grow a fair amount of hair on my back and am getting pretty thin up top. The down side. Oh boo hoo! lol. I can tell you that Testosterone is one of the very best things that has ever happened to me!!! My levels are held at normal 18-20. Not 25-35 like bodybuilders who are doing it purely for muscle gain and probably don't have any medical supervision at all. In my case it even helps me pee. A side effect is the added energy and for the first time in my life I am gaining muscle (a little) and not fat even though I was never really all that big. Oh BTW yes you can gain fat while on T as fat is also a metabolism issue. Higher metabolism has a lot to do with muscle mass. I never had much. Skinny fat they call it. I am an ectomorph. What I am saying is that if you need it, you need it. It will just make your whole life better. They have proven it doesn't specifically cause cancer and isn't a cause of enlarged prostate although if you have that it can aggravate it I am told. If you don't need it you might feel better in the short run but long term... well you might not be around to see it be better very long. Besides I am assuming you will want to do injections. Who wants to have to do that every week. I sure as heck don't like being jabbed all of the time but because I feel so much better I am happy to tolerate it. Healthier, happier and full of energy that is what it does for me.

Re: Male Testosterone: Anyone w/similar experiences?

Ive been using 100 mgs of testosterone cypionate i jections for 2 years with great results.
I will tell you this: if you are overweight and dont exercise, testosterone will not be all that effective. If you have bodyfat, that will convert the testosterone to estrogen with leads to more sexual issues and more body fat.
Clogged arteries effect blood flow which can lead to erection problems as well.
If you diet, excerise with both weights and cardio,Testosterone is a wonder drug.
If you dont, it doesnt really do much. My sex drive is actually too damn high. Lol.
I get my T levels checked one week after my last injection which is a few hours before the next. My levels tested at 520 and my Free Testosterone( more important) was high.
520 T level on day 7 means my levels were even higher prior since T peaks 24 hours after the injection then slowly decline.

You'll get an appointment faster with an urologist. I use a urologist for T replacement therapy and have been for 5 years now. I feel 200% better!!! When they tested me my T was 22 for my age at the time it should have been 650-1000. I couldn't function

Not one who is experienced in,or deals with trt. There are clinics that dispense it.i just feel like they're not interested in the individual.like it's a one size fits all approach from the places I've spoke with via telephone.
