    Unhappy Anal Warts and Monogamous

I was recently seen by my doctor for what I thought was hemorrhoids. I was told that they are warts and the doctor believes I have HPV. I don't fool around. I have been monogamous for almost 30 years and believe my wife is faithful too. We both have some sexual history from before we were married, but I have never engaged in anal sex. I'm devastated and wondering what happened.

I am a military veteran and have lived in unhealthy and unsanitary conditions for long periods. While traveling internationally I have visited hotel saunas and steam baths several times.

I'm looking for information on ways this could have been spread besides direct sexual contact. Help please.

The virus can lay dormant for decades. You could have contracted it long before you met your wife. It can also be transmitted during vaginal child delivery if the mother is positive for HPV. Get it treated and go on about your life.

You did not pick this up in a sauna or steambath....this comes from intercourse; however, it does NOT mean that you or your spouse was unfaithful.
Until 10 years ago, women were not tested for this disease and there is no test for men....many women in their 40s + are finding out that they have HPV simply because we are now tested for it during out pap tests- we carried it for decades and had no idea. Statistically, more people have this than don't in the US.

Treat it and move forward. Chances are when your wife gets her next annual, she will have it too. Have her check to see if she was ever tested for it in the last ten years. The body can fight this... our immune system can actually rid ourselves of this without treatment. Its a virus, and like other virus's, it can come and go...my sister tested positively for it 3 years ago, a year later they said it was gone, recently it came back....this may be an ongoing battle but honestly, its not really a big deal. One can have HPV since birth since it can be transmitted during birth...try not to worry. It is not dangerous overall.
