HPV Dormancy

In September of 1999 while pregnant with my 2nd child I found what I thought was at first an ingrown hair but it was a hard lump right near my vagina.

During a prenatal check I pointed this out to my OB/GYN who too one look & simply said "that's a venereal wart"
. . .since then about every 6-8 months I have to have these awful things burned off - it's both painfull and embarrasing!
This is the part that bothers me is - I've been a faithful wife who's been exclusive with my hubby since 6 years before this was discovered.

Is it possible that HPV would've been dormant in my system all of these years?
Is it likely that my husband cheated on me?

Re: HPV Dormancy

It is very possible that you have had HPV in your system for years and never knew. That's the thing about HPV, there is really no way of ever knowing which sexual partner has given it to you.
It is thought that about 80% of women have or have had a strain of the HPV virus at some point in their lives, often without warts. It is really quite common.
It is very common for pregnant women to get genital warts. Some people may never have had an outbreak and then when they fall pregnant if flares up.
Please don't think your husband has cheated on you because of this, even if it was him who initially gave it to you it would have been in his system for many years without him knowing.

ya or u never really noticed them before when they were smaller.everyone has them, and although it is considered an STD, you can get it from ways otehr than sexual transmission.

Re: HPV Dormancy

I contracted it in 2000 with my boyfriend at the time and didn't learn until this January that I had HPV. It's definitely possible that it was there all along and you didn't know it. I even had paps regularly throughout that time and it didnt show.
