Stand Up to doctors who think we are only hypochondriacs and not treating us
I know we are all very concerned about this horrible world pandemic Coronavirus and those of us who are more concerned or aware of our physical health are justified to be a bit of a hypochondriac. We all need to take extreme precautions to protect ourselves and if that means wearing a hazmat suit, 2 sets of gloves at the same time, 2 face mask with a plastic shield, disinfect ever single package from the grocery store, wash your cloths immediately and jump in the shower then do it and don't give a flying flip about what others think.
However, even before this pandemic many of us have been suffering with multiple health issues that may not be "just in our heads". I have had to change doctors several times because I knew that I was having serious health issues however, many of those doctors were frustrated and at times very rude and belligerent. Most claim that I was not suffering from anything and completely healthy. For years, I have suffered with extreme digestive issues and abdomen pain and discomfort. After years of suffering and changing doctors, I finally found doctors who were able to diagnosed and treat my health issues. I was finally diagnosed with extreme IBS and I found out that I have cancer cells in my uterus. I am being treated and monitored for those health issues however, when I go to my general practitioner with new issues I know he thinks I'm a hypochondriac. Currently, I am having chest or rib discomfort and tightness in my chest like someone has their hands around my heart and squeezing but my GP thinks it is anxiety yet I know it is something more serious. Now, I have to go search for another doctor.
If you feel that you are being told by your doctors that you don't have any health issues or being ignored or pushed off to another doctor like a specialist cause he/she doesn't want to deal with you, then you have a bad doctor. There are many of us who may be considered a hypochondriac even my friends and relatives think that I am but who better knows our bodies then we do. If you think something is wrong and you are having pain, discomfort, or any health related problems then you probably do. Remember that many health issues like IBS, Crohns disease, fibromyalgia, etc...were at one time considered to be nonexistent and people who suffered from these conditions were told nothing is wrong and it was all in our heads. Be persistent and insist your health care providers to look at all possible angles on your symptoms. Insist your physician to do more testing or more evaluation or even herbal or holistic remedies . If you feel your doctor is not doing what you and your insurance is paying them to do, then get another doctor. Never take your first diagnosis or lack of as the last word in your health. Seek out another opinion and stand up to doctors who are not doing their jobs and who think that we are just bothersome hypochondriacs.
