Hypochondria and High Blood Pressure

Hello all, I have suffered from hypochondria since about 19. Ive had tests for just about every kind of cancer, as well as HIV, Lupus you name it. However last year I was diagnosed with hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. Now I consistently focus on blood pressure, reading statistics on strokes and heart attacks. I can't help but take it 30-40 times a day and although it is controlled on medication, it ocassionaly spikes and it sends me into days of inactivity and fear.

Am I still a hypochondriac if I have hypertension? And are there any other hypochondriacs out there with it?

Re: Hypochondria and High Blood Pressure

Yes you are still a hypochondriac because you're still obsessing about your health. When I'm stressed my blood pressure spikes too, so the more you stress, the more you are going to drive your blood pressure up. Firstly you need to stop reading up on strokes and heart attacks because it's just feeding into your fears, so is constantly checking your blood pressure. If you feel this much constant fear then you should get some treatment for anxiety because your problem is not your blood pressure, it's the anxiety you have that makes you overly focussed on your body and health.
