    Question Help with ultrasound report

    Hi,

Per advice from members here, I got a copy of the ultrasound report. The gynocologist referred us to a gynocologic oncologist who said the fibroids are large and recommended abdominal total hysterectomy.

We will get a second opinion, but question if a total hysterectomy is necessary as there are no symptoms. We have been in watch and wait mode for about 4-5 years. My friend is 48. We are hoping to wait until menopause.

The reason for concern is that her fibroids have grown. Here are the results:
"The uterus is markedly enlarged measuring 18 x 9.3 x 10.8 cm and demonstrates a 6 mm endometrial stripe. There are at least five submucosal fibroids the largest of which measures 6.7 x 6.6 x 7.1 cm and is identified in the anterior uterine fundus. Previously the uterus measured 13.4 x 6.6 x 9.0 cm. The ovaries are not seen."

We are seeing her regular gynocologist tomorrow to talk about the specialist's hysterectomy recommendation (reasons: to prevent possible problems and cancer).

Given the ultrasound, is there cause for fear and worry? What are the options that will keep her safe and healthy?

    Thank you for your help.

Does not look concerning to me - just fibroids which are common and do not require treatment if you have the right doctor.

    Re: Help with ultrasound report

Sorry. I just now saw your reply. The reason I ask the question is that the specialist had a strong reaction at how large the fibroids are. He advised a hysterectomy. We talked with her regular gyno. We decided to do another ultrasound in February and will go from there. Thanks STLouisgal and everone for your help.
