Hashimoto Disease and Treatment
Hi I was diagnosed with Hashimoto disease 5 years ago and was only given T4 Levothyroxine to take as medication. I still feel tired most of the time and every year suffer bouts of flu and severe colds and chest infections, the last episode lasted for 10 weeks and unfortunately I lost my job. I have spoken to my doctor and have asked to see an Endocrinologist but my current doctor is unwilling to listen (even though he knows I was sick for 10 weeks) and is resistant to any ideas I have. It has now got to the point where I feel uncomfortable approaching my doctor, but feel in a desperate situation as need to be able to work consistently. I have spoken to a friend who said they were recently diagnosed with Hashimoto and have been sent to an Endocrinologist immediately. They are getting their adrenals checked, plus all other Endo functions plus their vitamins checked too. I have never had full checks done and I wonder if my tiredness is due to another problem which could be easily resolved through tests. Should I go back to my doctor and press to see an Endocrinologist and ask for adrenal tests or do you think it will be better to change doctors altogether? My current doctor keeps saying my levels are fine, but I would like to try T3 to see if this makes a difference. Last time I asked he just said you don't need it. I wondered if anyone is currently taking T3 and T4 and wondered if it works. I also wondered what dosage vitamins people are taking? I am taking a multivitamin, plus probiotic with selenium, occasional iron and vitamin B but not in really high dosages. I am wary about taking really high dosages without the doctor's advice. One last thing has anyone tried Natural Dessicated Thyroid? I would like to try anything to feel normal again. At the moment I am just reading and trying to treat myself the best way I can but would love some advice. Perhaps someone else has been in my situation and could offer some advice? Thank you! 🙂
