Post Swollen Lymph Nodes / Mono... PLZ read!

Ok well my problem is, I was diagnosed with Mono at the beginning of Grade 10 in September I believe. I originally went to the doctor because I didn't feel myself and my heart rate felt to be beating a little faster than usual. So, I was diagnosed with Mono, but at the time I never had a sore throat, I just felt tired, and would get a lot of colds and have a higher heart rate than usual. I few months later, I went to see a cardiologist, also had chest x-rays, EKG's. Everything with my heart was normal, the only thing he said was that it was beating faster than normal, but at the time I was nervous anyway. I am now just started Grade 12, so about a good year and a half has gone by, and I noticed starting in I believe this last April, I had a swollen lymph nodes right under my jaw to the right that felt like a pea. I also was getting a lot of sore throats, dry throats and colds over these past 2 years. Lately there has been a second lymph node to swell up on the left left side under my neck, also lately I have a really dry sore throat, I sneeze lots. I can't concentrate in school, I constantly feel like I'm fighting a cold, I've been to the doctor back in May, and he took blood tests, and he said everything turned out to be normal except the only test he didn't do again was a mono test. I am not sure what kind of virus I am fighting off, but I have higher heart rate than normal and it bothers me because I can feel it beating just when I'm sitting there and I never used to be like that, I think that I am fighting off some infection and that's why it beats faster. I used to be really into running, enter cross country running, track meets. I swim at the YMCA and do lengths, but I just can't exercise like I could before. Now when I swallow food, I get this pain on the right side of my chest real sharp for like 2 seconds, then it jsut goes away, it ONLY happens when I swallow food though. I am not sure what is wrong, but my doctor just sort of brushes it off. I really would just like to feel normal again like I used to about 2 years ago. Has anyone else expeirenced an "increase in heart rate" with mono?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it. If anyone has any suggestions, please post. Thanks again.

If you really don't feel good be persistant with your doctor. I don't have any answers for you, but I know that sometimes it takes a while for dr's to get it! So keep on it. Go back to him again and see if he'll send you elsewhere.

This is rediculous. You would THINK by this day and age there would be a *CURE* for viral infections by now. I mean, they are LIVING things, just like any organism, just like bacteria, a viral infection is still living in order to infect your system. This is pathetic, all doctors are good for now is brushing you off. All this money people donate spent to research disesases? I think its bull****. No improvements seem to be coming at all, and doctors nowadawys don't know what the hell is wrong with you. All it is is a money making scheme, and its really pathetic. They can't even cure the common cold yet. You WOULD think they would have some sort of cure for a viral infection by now. I consider Mononucleosis as bad as HIV, since the damn disease stays with you the rest of your life anyway. What a depressing life to live, what's life all about. All I hear here in Canada is about SARS, WesNile, Mad Cow disease, Mono going around. I've had mono for 2 years now, doesn't seem to be going away. I take vitamins everyday, as well as 50mg of Zinc, Garlic capsules. Nothing works. Its all a money making scheme as far as I'm concerned.

Has a doctor said to you mono stays with you the rest of your life? The only reason I asked is I once thought the same thing but when I got real sick with what I thought was mono it was CMV (cytomegalovirus). This virus is very similar to mono but my doctor told me that mono doesn't stay in your system but CMV does. Maybe your doctor can test you for the other viruses. A good thing that has helped me is Triple mushroom. THat really boosts your immune system. If I don't take it I will get sick but if I do I can go in a room full of sick people and be fine. Hope this helps.

    ceedricc,
Interesting, just now found this thread. How are you now feeling? better I do hope.
Briefly:- I'm 46, this month have tested possitive for Mono twice, but my Doctor says "blood picture is not that of Mono" I really have no signs other than tired off & on, little headache sometimes late in the day. I originally went to him Oct.14/03 after finding a lump in my neck, left side, Ultrasound showed "Inflamatory process", its a bit bigger now. I don't feel good today (saw the Doc), tomorrow I'll go for a chest x-ray & ultrasound on abdomin. Doc really does'nt seem to know whats going on,...may end up sending me to a specialist.
By the way, while at the Docs office today, he took my blood pressure & said my heart was racing, I knew it was, I could feel it. I did'nt even ask what the pressure was, I felt hot from the neck up & had to get out into the cold.
