Left side ab pain and urinary incontinence

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about the problem I have: I suddenly get the urge to urinate and some times I barely can make it to the bathroom in time. I had a prostrate ultrasound and 16 biopsys and they came back negative .The problem is that if I Have a bowel movement with just a small stool the presssure to urinate goes away and I feel normal. This happens 3-6 times a day and it gets very scary. I suspect there is something going on on my colon on lthe left side to pressure the bladder but my GP doctor doesent believe me when i tell him since he says there is nothing that would cause this condition. I am a single gay male and very athletic (snowboarding and mountianbiking) and all other tests BP, blood etc are normal. Thanks for any advise you may have

I too had similar problems, only I am female. I never suspected what it truly was. I had MRI's, Cat Scans (emergency room), drs, and more drs. Not on ly did I have incontinence, and left side pain and bowels as you say, my left let was the most hurtful, about 3" down from the groin area. No one, nor any test, showed anything. All was normal. I decided I would do nothing more till something just happened to me. A year later.. things progressed to the point that one day I could not get up out of bed and was in severe pain (I stayed in terrible pain) but this was really severe. I as given antibiotics and more tests. They said I had diverticulitis. Severe case. They could not operate till I was better and over bad bout with asthma. Next month he did the colonscopy. Found major problem. Once over the asthma bout, 2 months later, I went in for major surgery. Once opened up, it was worse than he thought and no tests showed what he saw. my ovary and tube had adhered to the colon and the colon was very distorted and had actually ruptered in several places. 13.5" were removed and I as hooked back up. It has been a slow road for me, a year later, I seem to be having some prob. again, but at the belly button area. I recently had gall bladderl surgery and he looked around there and saw nothing but several adhesions. I don't see how that is causing what I feel today. It you think it could be diverticulitis..please get to your doctor and get antibiotics before you have to go through the difficult surgery. Good luck...

I also have pain on my left side from scarring from crohns disease and severe bladder incontinence. I am on narcotic pain meds for chronic myofascial pain disease and they help with the incontinence. I have had bladder incontinence for the last year and no doctors have told me what is causing this. I hope things get better for you soon.

    twisten,
Wow- you certainly have some problems. My incontinence has totally stopped. Guess it was the pressure of everything down there that was wrong. A person I work with has Crohn's disease. I believe it is scarier than the diverticulitis by far. She has to have many operations but goes up to Mayo Clinic for infusions. I hope you are seeing a specialist in that area to help you. I hope they find out what is wrong with you. Good luck.

Re: Left side ab pain and urinary incontinence

Hi b51kitty, things are definitely better now than they were a year ago. My main problem is one of the drugs I'm supposed to take, imuran, scares the sh...t out of me so I don't take it like I should. Before the colonoscopy where they found the crohns they were actually thinking I had diverticulitis. I think one is almost as bad as the other. I hope diverticulitis has not come back on you. Good luck.
