fecal incontinence

Trying to get some information for my mom. She is 76 yrs old & having fecal incontinence for last couple months. She is very embarrassed & hasn't wanted to go see her family dr. I told her she will have to go but would find out what I can for now. She is having the incontinence several times a day & anytime she urinates. The best I can figure out is the spinchter or muscle of the rectum is not holding tight. Has anyone else had this & is there any treatment. I know she'll be grateful for any information. Thanks

Re: fecal incontinence

Hi, hopefully this has been sorted out for your mum. I have evacuatin problems. You are right about the s muscle but this could also be pelvic floor causing the problem. This is complex and can bring on many symptoms. But like me not all of them. You can rectal vagina prolapses.. these cause incontience/evacuation probs.bladder prolapse.. u can have incontience. leakages. If pelvic floor muscles are weak.. need exercises to stenghten them. If there strong and nothing else works for the fetal incontience as a last resort, a home irrigation kit might help her. I've tried this and its so easy to use. But it never helped me. So I'm having surgery.. a stoma irrigation.. not a colostomy. Hopefully it will do the trick. The home irrigation kit CANNOT be used if you have ANY Desease or Immaflation of the bowel. The kit is Qufora. I know how much distress this can cause someone. I hope it gets sorted out asap. Good luck
