Poor Ethan! Tyler spits up pretty frequently and sometimes what I concider violently but it never has come out of his nose. That seems more like throw up to me. Best of luck at the doctor. Let us know what he says.

My DD did that. Started when she was about 1 week old. Anyways her ped determined that she had reflux. Now they have her on zantac and reglan. They had me start adding rice cereal to her bottles to help make it a little heavier. The heavier the easier it is for her to pick it down. They told me that she would grow out of this. The meds are to help with the pain that comes with it. With reflux come some pain like heartburn. Which you can image how painful that is for a little baby.How painful is heartburn for us. Anyways i would look into this.

My DD has done this 2 times, mostly because I couldn't get her to burp and then she would cough or something and it would just shoot out her nose. No problems otherwise with spit up. But I hear that is can be normal. Good luck

Well, Ethan saw his ped today and they said that spit up through the nose at his age can be normal. The reason being that the part that separates the nose from the mouth cavity is not all the way formed yet. But she is still a little concerned that it is happening so often. So, she told me to mix rice cereal, 1 tsp to every 1 oz of formula and he has a follow up appt next monday to see if it improves the situation. Also, she said to keep him propped up for atleast 45 minutes after each feeding...but I already do that....anyways, she said it might be reflux or perio-something-itis....I can't remember the word, but it is when the opening from the stomach to the intestines is thickening and the hole that the food goes through is smaller. But she said that it is not likely that is the problem because Ethan is definitely gaining plenty of weight and otherwise looks healthy. So...we'll see how this mixing of cereal thing works and I'll let you all know.

It really does sound like reflux. Don't worry they grow out of it. My doctor told me to do the rice thing to. They also put her on meds zantac and reglan. I think that the rice cereal also helped with her sleeping through the night. We found out at like a little over two weeks old that she had it. Then when we started mixing the cereal in she started sleeping through the night. She has been doing really really well since all that.I hope all goes well for you with this. For me it was upseting. With the reflux they can get heartburn and so that can be painful for them. They can also have projectle spit up. She had and that was scary and heart breaking. It would upset her. What i thought was happening when she got is was a cold. I took her to the doctor because it sound like she was getting a cold. One night all night she was coughing and sound like she was really congested. She had stuff coming out her nose and white bubbly stuff coming out her mouth. It looked the formula with you mix it with the water and how it has those bubbles that sit on top of it when you first mix it. Anyways i thought it was just a cold and the next thing i know when are at the hospital. She had blood test, chest x-ray to rule out pnemioua, and then an upper GI. Try with holding food for like 6 hours from a two week old baby. She couldn't eat because she had to wait to have the upper GI before she could eat anything. So when her reflux would act up one day it was just horrilbe. I hated it. There wasn't anything i could do except the cereal and then her meds. Which needed time to work. So those few days waiting for the meds to work was just the worst. I felt so helpless. She cryed some because like i said before it can cause some discomfort in some babies. It don't know how this is for you or others who have had babies with this. I wish you the best. My little girl is still on her meds, but will probably be coming off them soon. She is almost 7 months old and the said usually by 9 months or 1 years they have grown out of this. She is doing much better the older she get. Oh my doctor did say that when babies get to about 4 months old they do spit up more the younger babies. That is why when babies younger then 4 month have problems spitting up the check for reflux. At four months old she started spitting up alot. That lasted like maybe a month. Anyways enough of me just rambling on and on.

I think I shall ask his ped about zantac and reglan.....I have been mixing the cereal with his formula, and although he is spitting up less through the nose, he seems to be spitting up more through the mouth....and he seems more irritable. I feel bad for the poor little guy. He seems to still have gas issues and his hiccups are getting better, but he still gets his sessions from time to time. I feel as though he is not happy, and bless his little heart he sleeps all day long and then is wide awake and cranky as all get out from 8pm until about 2am! I had issues with his days and nights being confused, and then just when I thought I had made progress these intestinal problems started and now he has completely digressed! I have a follow up visit with his ped monday, so I will ask him about those meds.....hopefully he starts to feel better soon.
Also, is it normal for him to have a weird smell? His poo smells bad, but thats normal....but when I hold him I notice that he has a strange smell about him in general...not terrible, but enough that I don't like it. I give him a bath about every other day...I don't want to dry out his skin...but this smell is really starting to bother me. Any suggestions?

i really think that see if your ped would send him to a specialist and also it may be is formula along with a little gerd. reflux() my son had the exact same thing they put him on zantac it helped alot. they did exrays just to see how is stomach was and so forth but see if it gets to bad they can have to hospitalized ur baby which is not very nice. so i think this is something not to totally stress about but but def keep on top of your doc. also helping with the sleeping if he is in a basinet prop his head up while sleep keep in in a bounce or car seat keep him elavated at least an hour after feeding thats just my suggestion went thru sorry if i said anything wrong
