Going rate for babysitter???

I have a "friend of a friend" who has a daughter who is 14 and interested in babysitting. My DH and I have not left DD with anyone besides my mother or her fulltime daycare provider. Since DD is 9 months old, we wanted to find someone to come over for "date night", etc. This girl has only babysat for relatives and has not received payment. I asked how much she will charge us (wondering if we will be able to afford dinner and a babysitter...haha) and she doesn't know. What would you think a fair hourly amount would be considering we will also have to provide her transportation to and from our home? Thanks.

Re: Going rate for babysitter???

That's a good question. I was wondering too. Mine are 5 years and 2 mos. There's a girl at church who is 11 and very good with kids, I was going to hire her for the summer to watch the kids (while I was home) while I clean, garden, cut grass, etc. In exchange I would pay for her summer church camp, which I think is a few hundred $.

As far as a babysitter, I would get 15-20$ for an evening as a 15 year old. That was 15 years ago though. But my current PT adult babysitter charges me 15$ per day and 25$ for 2 kids. I think I would still pay a kid 20$ for like a dinner and a movie 4-6 hours.

Re: Going rate for babysitter???

I think $15-$20 per evening for one kid is reasonable to me. When I was 15 I used to baby sit 2 little girls and I received $25-$30 depending on how long the parents were gone. At that age, I was just so happy to have some money of my own since I wasn't old enough to have a regular, hourly job yet. I'm sure at 14 she'll be grateful to have any amount of spending money

I would say $20-$25 for the evening.
