Re: I have a small wound that wont heal.[3 weeks] Is this MRSA???
Hi there and welcome to healthboards.
I think you, among many people who come here, have a bit of a "blown out of proportion" impression of what MRSA. I wrote a post a few weeks back titled "MRSA Explained"--you should have a read of that.
A couple of things for you: the reason the doctor could tell (without doing a culture) that you didn't have a Staph infection (by the way, MRSA IS a Staph infection...just a different type of Staph) because it probably didn't look infected in the first place at all. Your description doesn't make it sound like it's infected.
Additionally, you mention you keep putting an antibiotic ointment on the area--interestingly, antibiotic ointments are known to have an "anti-healing" effect, and can prevent granulation (i.e. healing) tissue to form at the site of a wound. Try stopping the ointment and see what happens.
What is it about mRSA you're so concerned about?
