osteomyelitis due to infection after shoulder implant

I had a shoulder implant which never healed properly. After about a year and a half I returned to the doctor to talk about the swelling and pain. I want to make this short so I will just tell you he blew me off and said there was nothing he could do for me because my cat scan showed that the implant was mechanically fine. I was referred by someone else to a top shoulder doctor who specialized in failed implants. He discovered my infection and it was determined that I have osteomyelitis. I was on a picc line for six weeks and went on another six week regime after he put in a new permanent implant. I have just been put on oral penicillin for the rest of my life. The infectious disease doctor told me the infection can only be contained and will always be treated as a chronic disease. I am worried that it could get worse even on the penicillin and I wonder if anyone else has hd a similar experience and what is your outcome? Any feedback will be appreciated.
