    Chronic BV / Infertility

Here is a brief over view of my own personal BV hell and TTC. I have been with the same man for over a year. NEVER had any issues with BV previous to him, so it's obvious that our chemistry (literally) is off. I work for an OBGYN group at a hospital and you think it would help, but as I have seen first hand, they continue to do studies and research with no real cure for BV (which is a Ph imbalance of the vagina).

I could live with the BV I think, but I have been trying to get pregnant and that is where the issues come into play. You CANNOT take Clindamycin OR Metronidazole in your first trimester of pregnancy (or in my case if your trying to conceive) since you never know if you have or not until you get your monthly aunt flo visit. In addition to that, you are NOT supposed to use any suppositories or douche if you think you might be pregnant as well.

Thus my issue: We want a child so badly, but I have chronic BV, to add to the issue...... BV has also been associated with miscarriage and pre-term labor if not treated within the 2nd & 3rd trimesters (which i could do if i could get rid of it long enough to even get preg. and make it past the first trimester)

SIGH! I suck down Acidophilis (good bacteria that produces good vaginal flora) like its going out of style. Im up to 3 pills morning and night along with the vinegar/hydrogen perioxide douches if I absolutely KNOW I have not conceived........

Im not sure if Im just ranting here, or if Im somehow hoping that someone has some valuable piece of information that Im missing or any thoughts that might help.... I mean, its obvious that this condition is leading to infertility issues and could potentially be dangerous for me if i got pregnant, but does that mean I should just give up??? Im just not ready for that yet, Im only 34!

i dont really know what bv is, but there are many causes of infertility and many things women try to do to become pregnant, dont give up.. have u been trying for over a yr?? you need to see a specialist, i know u work with obgyn, but infertility is not their specialty. i would make an appt with an re and see what he thinks. Good Luck...

I agree with previous post, you should see a specialist as soon as possible. At least to find out what your options are, and since you are in your 30's as I am don't put it off!
good luck to you, update us on what the specialist has and what bv is?

SIGH! I am so sorry to hear about your ordeal. I cannot imagine having chronic BV...I have had BV before and it is not fun. I would definitely make an appointment with a specialist ASAP and find out your options. In the meantime, research the heck out of the internet....there has to be some info on BV and what can be done to conceive.

Best wishes to you and don't give up! I'm sure there is an answer out there.

Ha Ha........ My last Dr. actually told me to stay off the internet. In our last appointment I had SO MUCH information that it made her brain hurt. She thinks Im trying to hard to overcome the BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) WELL DUH! Anyway, you can get pregnant with BV, however the compications are so much higher, thus my issue. The risk is terrible with the possibilities ranging from miscarriage in 1st trimester to pre-term labor or PROM. Not to mention what happens if i take the normally prescribed anti-biotics. Its almost as if Im infertile by proxy because of the BV itself.

We do have many infertility specialist here on staff in my department... Perhaps I should consult with one of them and ask about the BV issues in relation to that and if they know of anything that can be done to insure a healthy conception and delivery. UGH UGH UGH

Thanks for the suggestions and support. Its a tough choice to know if you should subject a child to such dangers as early as conception if you are even able to conceive.

Sounds like a VERY good idea!
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

Wow, I didn't know BV could be chronic (ugh, it's sooooo itchy, how do you deal with it??). I have had 2 bouts with it in the past year and a half since being off the pill (never had it before while on the pill for 13 years). But I had never thought about the fertility issue. It certainly makes sense. Keep me posted on anything you find out...

    Re: Chronic BV / Infertility

Wish I had the magic cure, but I suspect if I did, Id be a very rich woman from it. All I can suggest is to try the different regiments that other women have tried to see if you will respond to it. There is another post here about a hydrogen perioxide douche.......which actually does work quite well for me (if Im not trying to conceive). I would try that in conjunction with some other methods suggested in the BV thread.

Good Luck....... I feel your pain (literally and figuratively)
