Small ovaries=infertility?

I have recently had a transvaginal ultrasound in which my ovaries were measured. Where the normal ovarian volume is 6 mL for women my age (35), my volume is only 0.6mL. That makes them the size of either an 8 year old girl or an 80 year old woman.

For background: I have two children (18 & 11), I have been on BC pills since I was 15-ish (except very short periods of time that resulted in my 2 pregnancies), I started my period between 14 & 15, I have had bleeding between periods for about 10 years, and 2 weeks ago I went off BC because I had bled for a month straight.

I guess my question is, does the extremely small volume of my ovaries indicate new-found infertility? I read that BC will make a woman's ovaries shrink but by how much? and for how long?

Your ovaries shrink to some extent when they are suppressed (like BC pills or something). I'm not sure if they shrink that much but it is possible. Did you ask the DR or ultrasound tech?

i too have heard that bcp can make your ovaries shrink slightly, but i cant imagine that is the "cause" of your small ovaries.. you may just be going into this early... i have friends who have been on the bcp since they were 12 and who are now in their late 20's early 30s and their ovaries are of avg size.. so even if the bcp played a part in it, i dont think its the "norm" for them to shrink that much.. were you plannin on trying to have another child??

Welcome to the board!!! I am lived in FL for 1/2 my life and just moved from there so welcome from another FL gal!!

With regards to your question, since you already hae children it wouls seem odd that your ovaries would shrink to the point that you can not conceive now. There may be other factors that have not been considered. Are you seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist?? If not maybe you can set an appt. with one. Please keep us posted you will find a lot of support on this board.

Well, my husband just got a vasectomy last month so I was thinking it would be just our luck for me to not be able to make babies.......heheheh.

I am military so as soon as I get out (next week) and then get a new job (next month)........I can see a doc off base. And, man, I can't wait. I have no faith in the docs on base.

I am so anxious to see if I get my period since I went off of the pill on Dec 2. It should be next week. We'll see.............
