    Starting Cycle 4 with Puregon

    Hi,
Just starting cycle number 4. I've been put on injectable puregon, just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this drug and if so, side effects or any other information?
    Thanks!

Sorry, just realized that in the US the drug is called Follistim

    Hi Canadiangirl!

Good luck on your upcoming cycle~I hope it is the one!! I used follistim for my IVF cycle, and it was cake. I loved using the pen, it was much less intimidating than the syringe & once I got the "dial your dose" thing down, it was really quite simple. I didn't notice any negative side effects other than bloating. But if you're not doing IVF (which I don't think you are, sorry if I'm mistaken), you might not even experience that as the dose you will be on will probably be much lower. Hope that helped. Again, good luck!!

    Holly

Re: Starting Cycle 4 with Puregon

    Thanks for your reply Holly.
I am on a 200 mg dose and gave myself my first injection today, it wasn't nearly as bad as I worked myself upto thinking it would be.
Glad to hear about the lack of side effects, I had some unpleasant ones with Clomid.
You are correct, I'm not doing IVF, I'm doing IUI.

I'm glad your first shot wasn't bad. I've used clomid too, & let me tell you, I had some nasty side effects from that drug! I really think you will like the follistim much more.

Hey CG, I took follistim for IVF on my last fresh attempt... I did a dose of 175units per day (if that sounds low in comparison, keep in mind I am what they call a super-responder to stims). I really didn't have any side effects other than the expected bloating from producing 30 follicles! I think it's a pretty good med, and I'm sure you will respond quite well. When is your first ultrasound for monitoring? Good luck, and keep us posted!

Re: Starting Cycle 4 with Puregon

Well, I've discovered one very interesting side effect.... ho hum.... I was at my friends for dinner last night and by the end of the meal I was about to burst, I was SO gasssy! I actually had to leave right after dessert, I couldn't take it. It was a "relieving" walk home (TMI, I know! )
I'm feeling some cramping in my ovaries and feel bloated as well...
As I said before I was having terrible headaches and crazy hot flashes from the Clomid so this is a piece of cake! Good thing DH is out of town, not too sure what he'd think of my newest side effect!

I'm going in on Saturday for my first u/s. I will be very interested to see how many follicles are developing!

Thank you all for your replies and information! Much appreciatedd!

Hi CG, I'm really sorry, I hope you don't get offended, but your post has me cracking up! The things we will do to experience motherhood. At least you're not finding the gassyness as difficult to deal w/ as the side effects from clomid. Glad DH is not around to witness it...LOL. Remember, it'll all be worth it when you get that bfp. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Holly how dare you laugh at my gastro-intestinal issues! Just kidding of course, I had posted it because I thought it was kind of humorous! If you can't laugh at these things then you're in big trouble!
So far today I seem to be better, should I feel like I"m about to pass gas again I"ll be sure to hop on the boards an update you all!

Re: Starting Cycle 4 with Puregon

Sorry CG, but your post made me laugh too!!! I"m glad that your Dh isn't around to witness all of that. I try my best not to 'relieve' myself in front of DH--- I did once and he called me "Princess Butch" LOL. He's such a joke. And now he asks if I even....relieve myself...and I said "No, I'm too cute". LOL!

I'm glad today is better for your comfort sake!! I hope you aren't too gassy anymore, and if you are, you are safe at home watching tv

    Good luck!!!

Too funny! You know princess, we were in Montreal in the summer and by accident I let a littel one slip (honestly, so little). He hasn't stopped bugging me about it to this day, we refer to it as "the Montreal incident".
Anyways, enough about my uncontrollable gas, lets talk follicles!!!!

There was also the "cuba incident".... that was bad! In fact DH thought that Castro was invading Varadero!
Anyways, when I'm not overdosing on Cuban diet (beans, beans and more beans) or on injections I'm normally not a gascious person! I'm sure everyone is so happy to be reading this right now, in fact I can't believe I'm still typing!
