What could this be?

Hi all
Ok so last yr in Jan 07, I went to bed feeling GREAT and woke up with Vertigo and nausea. It lasted 2 days. I went to the ER, then to neuro and an ENT and they said it was prob a virus. The ER gave me SERC and sent me home.
I had little bouts of dizziness since, but nothing too severe at all. But
3 months after this incident, I got ringing in my ears that has not ever gone away.

Then this past Sunday, I wake up and again, bang, I have vertigo. My face feels numb, the ringing in my ears is worse, my head feels heavy (almost inflammed) and it's been 3 days and I still feel as bad. And the day before I felt great. I don't have a cold or flu nor have I had one in over 2 yrs.

I'm being currently treated for lyme disease and not sure if it's related, but I've been sick for 13 yrs and only this past yr has the vertigo hit me these two times. I'm on abx so it can't be bacterial.

I feel fine when I sit still, when I get up, I'm dizzy and head heavy.

What could this be? A Virus, herpes. My mom wants me to try her Acyclovir. Bad idea?

Meniere's Disease? Migraine associated Vertigo? Benign brain tumor?

You should see a neurotologist, inner ear specialist. There are times when antivirals will be of help but I wouldn't borrow them, it takes a while and they have to be taken correctly and then they only work if it is viral in origin. See a specialist, get some stuff ruled out and then ask about the acyclovir.

Re: What could this be?

Peacesoul...you just described what I have been experiencing for the past 6 years. One day I woke up and the room was just like a spin cycle of a washing machine. The severe vertigo lasted for three days and it was the worst feeling I have ever experienced. Ever since that day I have had dizziness and lightheaddedness along with headaches, fatigue, brian fogg...etc.

I have had more tests than I care to admit to and have been seen by numerous ENT's, specialists, and I was told the tests are all normal. After six years of pure torture, I finally have my diagnosis. MIGRAINES. It seems the headaches and dizziness are two major symptoms along with others. I just went to see Dr. Baloh at UCLA and he was amazing. It just feels like a relief to finally know what is causing my dizziness. If this can help just one person to avoid what I have gone through, I will feel much better. Aparently there are medications for depression that work OR I can avoid the "triggers" that cause migraines.

Hope this will help......one more thing that Dr. Baloh noted......If you have a tendency to get motion sickness, then you have migraines (with or without the headaches)

Take care and hope this helps.

Re: What could this be?

peacesoul......you might have bbvp that is some type of vertigo that the room is always spinning or you might have meniere's disease.
go to a doctor that specialize with the ear and thoart.
you might have to get a ENG.
that might help find the cause for the dizzy spells and also might rule out bbvp or meniere's disease

Re: What could this be?

I was diagnosed with MAV...but was tested for Lyme disease prior to this diagnosis. I would bring it up to the doctor that is treating you for lyme...it could be related.
