deaf in right ear

My husband is completely deaf in one ear due to the mumps when he was ten years old. Is nerve in the inner ear is damaged and he constantly hears three tones of ringing, even in his good ear. He hasn't had it looked at in years. Have they come up with anything? Even just to get rid of the ringing...he's adjusted to being deaf in that ear?
