i have looked for anyone who experienced symtoms similar to my first experience with labrynthitis, it started off with a noise in my right ear, like a hairdryer that was constantly on, i went to the doctors several times and was told it was fluid on the ear and would clear in 10 days time, 10 weeks later it was still there, but was accompanied by severe vertigo, another doctor finally gave me antibiotics and that cleared it for a while, but the noise came back along with the vertigo, it affected my life horrendously especially as i had two small children at the time, and the doctors didnt seem to care, one of them even told me to go home and listen to music or something, eventually i was sent for a hospital appointment (by this time it had actually started to clear up) i was told it was labrynthitis and would never go away but would be something that would re occur, and it has several times over the years, same symtoms noise in my ear then the dizzyness. i am very disillusioned with doctors and dont even bother going back when it happens, but i wish i could, i get so depressed i would like their help

Re: labrynthitis

It doesnt sound labyrinthitis because you would have to have 1 distict episode of vertigo lasting several days. Recurrances are very rare.

Did the doctors actually see fluid behind the eardrum with the otoscope?

Re: labrynthitis

yes, and when i moved my head there was a loud banging which the doctor said was the fluid swishing around, also the first episode of vertigo was very severe, the doctor at the hospital sent a letter to my gp, and it was my gp that said they had described it with a word that meant i would always have it. i was also tested for menieres, at the moment i have a cold that seems to have hung around for several weeks dont know if perhaps this is why my symtoms seem to have returned although they started before the cold, and the dizzyness is very slight compared to other times, when all i could do was lie down and wait until it had subsided
