I really need help! Chronic carrying dizziness...

    Hi, everyone!

I have had bouts of dizziness, once in 2006 which started as a bout of vertigo that caused vomiting andeft me off balance for a few months. I got better without and rehab as the ENT was unable to find anythingrg wrong.

Then after I had my son in 2009 I started getting migraines and a condition called visual snow (happened after trying an antidepressant). I was diagnosed with basilar migraine in 2011 and put on Verapamil which has cut my migraines down to twice a month during my monthly cycle.

I was diagnosed in 2012 as having bilateral vestibulopathy by an otoneurotologist because I was getting a little dizzy while driving. I would also experience it if I did sudden movements with my head, like shaking my head up and down to say yes to someone.

I took a break from the verapamil thinking maybe that was the cause.

I went through vestibular rehab and after getting colonics done again it showed I was compensating well. My dizziness seemed better, but for some reason I can no long track fast moving objects and in my peripheral they kind of strobe while they move past or when I am driving. I immediately started verapamil again thinking my migraines were causing the vision issues.

I have since been on the verapamil and the dizziness has come back bad! It started in mid October 2014 and was a rocking sensation. I have pinned it down to the rocking going along with my heart beat. When I lay down it's really bad. My eyes will beat along to my pulse and make me feel dizzy. But even if I close my eyes some times I feel like in spinning. I went to see another ENT and he said I still have residual inner ear issues and probably some BPPV which he didn't know how to treat but have me some Brandt daroff exercises for BPPV. I tried those and tried the eply on myself and neither caused nystagmus or rotational vertigo, but caused me to feel off balance for the whole day.

I have since stopped those because the dizziness went away for a week and then started again after my monthly cycle came and now again it's getting better. I decided I would try some at hkme vestibular exercises and find that they make me extremely off balance and very uncomfortable. I am at my witts end now and don't know what else this can be. I am back to thinking maybe it's the verapamil, even though it isn't my blood pressure causing this.... Or maybe it's something structurally wrong with my ear because sometimes when I turn my head to the left something in or near my right ear "POPS" or maybe it's my neck because it's always stiff and I have to crack it a lot.

I dunno. Is there something I should do? I gave up on the neuro otologist because he just wants to keep giving me the colorics and making me super dizzy and the ENT didn't even know the eply which was kind of concerning to me.

Thank you and I apologize for this being so long I just wanted to make sure all was covered.

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Candi,
I'm sorry you are not feeling well again. Maybe your hormones are messed up now? Especially since you are getting dizzy around your cycle.
I saw a specialist at UPMC in Pittsburgh just two weeks ago and was dx'd with chronic subjective dizziness. I had all the testing done that day too. He prescribed Imipramine and I am having some side effects to it. I'm hoping they go away soon.
Please keep us posted as to how you're feeling and what it turns out to be that's making you ill.
Take care and Happy New Year,
    Nicole

    Hi, Nicole!

Uggg I hope your side effects go away! Is it at least helping some with the dizziness?

I think I am going to make an appt with my dr to get a referral to see a gyno. It does seem odd that it gets worse around my period, especially the migraines too. I've also been hit with 3 sinus infections within the past 2 months so it's hard to gauge what is causing what.

Keep me update too on how your new medication goes.

    Happy New Year!!

    Hi Candi,
Thanks. I've only been on the medicine since Saturday. But I had bad cramping last night and didn't get much sleep, so today, I'm paying for it with feeling tired and dizzier then usual. I also was told to try VRT with someone who really knows what they're doing. I need to schedule that but since I cannot drive myself, I'll need my sister in law, mom or husband to be able to take me. I'm hoping I can get in on Saturdays. That way my husband would not have to miss work to take me.
    Keep in touch.
    Nicole

Yes, def. get into the therapy. If anything you should give it a shot. I just got new insurance so I have to find a new primary and get a referral to other doctors... It's a mess lol. Hopefully this New Year is kind to us both.

Do you have problems walking with your balance issues and do you have to rock? I will be walking and I have to stop and adjust my walk as I feel like I am falling
